Game On! Why ....

In the book they ask us to write down why we are doing the challenge. I know not all of us have read the book so I wanted to post that question here ...
  • Maybe you wanted to get Melissa to shut up so you simply agreed?
  • Maybe you are frustrated with the lack of increase in your running speed?
  • Maybe you have been dieting for ages and had no long term results?
  • Maybe you are a competitive nut and you wanted play to W-I-N?
I think it would be a great way to help us be supportive of each other and our goals (whatever they may be) if we shared that. Feel free to leave out actual pounds since this is the world wide web, but add a comment to this post with your feelings on why you are doing this challenge?

If you have decided you really want to read the book it's not too late to buy it and read it before we get started. If reading is part of your healthy habit you can complete the book as part of your challenge!

And why THIS photo? Did it make you smile? That's why ...

  1. I will kick things off.

I am doing this challenge for a few reasons.

I feel like I have been dieting since I hit 28 years old ... since I am almost 35 that is quite a long time! Last summer I did a strict diet and lost 20 lbs it was very exciting, but impossible to stick to. 6 months later I finally stepped on the scale and all the weight is back plus 2 extra lbs just for fun! I like that this plan has a cheat day and actually encourages you to use it.

I want to reach that next fitness level. I have been running 3-5 times a week for ages. I am going to keep running, but my commitment to this challenge includes additional exercises. In the long run I hope to faster and tighter!

I have been a team most of my life. All of the sudden when I hurt my back no more soccer ... no more team sports ... no more reason to challenge myself and keep myself in top physical condition. I feel strongly that if I am doing it not just for myself, but for my team it will help me stay focused on my goal.

Thanks to everyone who agreed to take part in this challenge. I do strongly believe it will be good for all of us, but I know it will be great for me ... thanks so much!

  2. My why (Shiela Strubel)…

I am doing this challenge for a few reasons as well.

Over the past five years I have gain 30 unwanted pounds. Last month I decided enough is enough. I had already started a new healthy diet (lifestyle change, so not a real diet, my main problem is eating enough calories a day, sometimes I would only eat once a day) and at least 20 minutes of vigorous exercise a day. So when Melissa emailed me about the challenge, surely I was up for it!

Secondly, I want to get FIT, not just SKINNY! I think this will help me stay motivated. I am very competitive, so this GAME for me should seal the deal. I think with everyone's help and encouragement we can all benefit! Within the past 20 days I have lost 1.5 pounds, 1.5 inches off my waist and 1 inch of my hips. I am ready to melt away the fat and build more muscle.

    My goal FIT > SKINNY.

I am looking forward to the challenge and helping my team, thanks Melissa for coordinating GAME ON! Girlfriends.

  3. That is good to hear, Shiela .. I know we can do it1 I wouldn't mind loosing lbs, of course, but fitness is most important to me, too! They say you see a noticeable difference in your running pace with every 5 lbs! Maybe if fitness is a common goal for all of us we can do weekly measures instead of weigh-ins?

    2. We can discuss the measurements tomorrow. I think it would be a good idea. So maybe if you lose .5 inches in 1 week, but you did not lose 1% that week you can still get your points, or something like that???

  4. So let's see, my reasons are well my baby is 4 months old tomorrow and it's about time for me to get serious to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight, actually I'd like to drop another 10 lbs on top of that so my goal is 20 lbs total! Also I'd like to gain some muscle and tone my body! I consider myself having healthy eating habits but I realize as I get older my metabolism is getting slower so I need to change my eating habits to consume less calories and i need to get more active ! I'm not a huge fan of games but I want to do this challenge to support my friends and to show them that I care deeply about them! Game on, let's do this together! Cheers!

  5. Banu, you look great but I am glad you are doing this with us! I typically consider myself a very healthy eater (been far off the wagon since Dec) and I think that makes for more of a challenge sometimes. I know if Chris wants to loose weight he will just quit fast food for a month and loose a ton!

  6. I know it's not fair right? Jimmy lost weight so quickly too. He convinced me to try Nutrisystem ( I hope it's ok with this game?) I wasn't a big fan, (too much preservatives etc) but I think it won't kill me to try for a month LOL, plus you are supposed to add your own veggies and fruits so actually it's not too bad. On their program you have to eat 5 times a day as well. So it should work out. I'll see you all this Sunday (you are the only one I know in our group!Well you'll introduce us to each other)Have a good weekend!

    1. Awesome Loretta! You already look beautiful, but I know exactly what you mean! You have my full support ... they say it takes 28 days to build a new habit so I am hoping this challenge does the trick ... if it works I may do it more than once? Nothing wrong with reinforcing a good habit!

I have known you for how many years? At least 10 .. as a bonus I am excited to get to know you even better after all this time!

  8. Hey all,
I'm Brittany. About the first meeting tomorrow mornning at 10:30, I will not be able to attend as i have church to go to. I didn't know where else to post to since I'm not an avid blogger, heck I barely spend any time on my computer, I can do most of the email/facebook stuff on my phone. I'm 24, people tell me I look fairly healthy but the truth is I'm really not. I till eat like I did in hs and its catching up to me. I also was in a car accident a year and a half ago and got whiplash real bad so that contributed to my initial laziness because it hurt too much to move. Then i just got used to being sedentary, so I thought this diet thing would help kick me back in the right direction. I need to learn some new habits and find healthier ways of eating and living so i can get outta this nice little rut i dug for myself.

  9. Hello Ladies:

I wanted to join in the fun because after the birth of my second child and then four months later finishing two stressful years of college. The baby weight stayed on along with a few unwanted extra.
After graduating college, I worked hard to get serious about losing weight and I successfully lost 30 pounds. Now that much of the weight is off, I want to get toned. My arms and legs could really use it. ;)
As extra motivation, my husband and I are going to the Philippines in October. After being together 15 years, this will be the first time I will be meeting some of his family. I hope I can look as good as ever :)
In addition, I wanted to start this challenge in hopes of meeting some great new friends and getting to know some existing friends even better.

  11. I'm busy enough that I have great excuses for not being healthy, but my body won't wait for me to "have time" to be healthy. I prefer healthy foods, but I have enough guilty pleasures that without exercise I gain weight. I'm hoping that being held accountable will force me to find the time to fit in daily exercise so I can get back on track.
See you all this morning (except Brittany - we will meet soon)!

  12. Great, Ladies!

I am SUPER EXCITED about today and getting started!!

The book is really funny and an easy read ... the type you can pick up and put down as needed so it is pretty easy to fit into just about any lifestyle. Banu said she is reading it on her iPad so you could always read it on the go, too!

  14. Ok so I have read a portion of the book. Are the points all or none??? So if I only drink 2 liters of water a day to lose all 10 points or do I get a portion of the points???? What if I only sleep 5 hours?? I either lose all my points or count is as my sleep day off????
